I Write My Name

I write my name
in straight
black letters,
the smallest
thought I own.

One by one
I climb
each peak,
then fall back
to the ground.

You see them
as a smudge,
the remnants
of a fire
gone out.

Go ahead,
take up
your cloth,
wipe my
fable clean.
