When I Close My Eyes

When I close
my eyes,
kind fingers
touch my face.

Peace, they say. Peace.

In the distance,
a leaf falls
across
my childhood.

Grief, it sighs. Grief.

The leaf cries
itself to sleep,
cries boundless
perfect colors.

Weep, my eyes, weep,
be grateful for this song.
