He had climbed his favorite tree
and was listening to the birds
when his mother called out to him
and said, Time for church.
Go, God said. And love those
who do not understand.
And the birds sang psalms,
in glory of the day.
Wash your hands, his mother said,
to someone far away
or was it him?
was it him?
was it really him?
