The particular piece of writing that you are about to read and I am about to write is being written for two reasons. First, I feel like writing it. Second, I have a very strong feeling that I am about to write something else, and that while I write this piece, the other will be writing itself in the background. This means, in effect, that I will be writing two pieces at once, despite the fact that this piece, the one you are reading and the one I am writing now, is the only one we are able to see at the moment.
Fascinating, isnt it? Now, understandably, I am concerned about both pieces. I am concerned about this piece, because I am writing it and I want it to be meaningful, enjoyable, and good. And I am concerned about the other piece, because it is demanding my attention much as if it were a baby showing signs of awakening. The heartbeat has quickened the babys, mine and there is a feeling of eagerness and anticipation that might well be called inspiration or not. It might be indigestion. Whatever it is, I am very interested in it, because I am pretty sure it has something to do with the other piece, the one that is being written in the background. What the other piece is about remains to be seen. What this piece is about by now is obvious. This piece is about the other piece which would probably never be written if it werent for this piece. At the same time, this piece is about the primordial spark that gives birth to new writing, and what it feels like to bear witness to such a wonderful event. If I had to describe it which of course I dont, but will try to do anyway I would say that it is like stepping off a cliff in order to catch a better view, and expecting to sprout wings and learn to fly on the way down. |
